Linking sediment supply variations and tectonic evolution in deep time, source-to-sink systems—The Triassic Greater Barents Sea Basin

چکیده
Abstract Triassic strata in the Greater Barents Sea Basin are important records of geodynamic activity surrounding catchments and sediment transport Arctic basins. This study is first attempt to investigate evolution these source areas through time. Our analysis budgets from subsurface data application BQART approach estimate catchment properties shows that (1) during Lower Triassic, supply was at its peak basin comparable biggest modern-day river systems, which supplied by tectonically active orogens; (2) Middle load significantly lower but still top 10 largest modern rivers; (3) Upper increased again Carnian; (4) there a large mismatch (70%) between modeled estimated Carnian. These results consistent with succession being deposited under influence volcanic event ever Permian-Triassic boundary (Siberian Traps) concurrent climatic changes Carnian Pluvial Event final stages Northern Ural orogeny. They also provide better understanding impacts on sedimentary systems improve our knowledge continental-scale transport. Effects of in-phase and out-of-phase sediment supply responses to tectonic movement on the sequence development in the late Tertiary Southern Ulleung Basin, East (Japan) Sea
Stratigraphic inverse modeling using the SEDPAK stratigraphic simulator established the size of the physical parameters that together controlled the development of the stratal patterns in the late Tertiary Ulleung Basin, East (Japan) Sea. The modeling results provided a quantitative geohistory of the basin. This included the dimension of variations in rates of tectonic subsidence (or uplift) an...
متن کاملHolocene variations of sea-surface conditions in the southeastern Barents Sea, reconstructed from dinoflagellate cyst assemblages
Palynomorphs were analysed in two sediment cores from the southeastern Barents Sea representing the past 8.3 and 4.4 kyr. High dinocyst contents and species diversity enabled the application of the best analogue method to quantitatively reconstruct sea-surface salinities, temperatures and ice cover using 677 modern reference sites from the North Atlantic and Arctic seas, including new data from...

[1] We present area-averaged time series of temperature for the 100–150 m depth layer of the Barents Sea from 1900 through 2006. This record is dominated by multidecadal variability on the order of 4 C which is correlated with the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation Index. Citation: Levitus, S., G. Matishov, D. Seidov, and I. متن کاملCosmic Spherules from Triassic Deep-sea Sediments in Japan
Introduction: Cosmic spherules are subspherical to spherical particles of <1 mm diameter which are produced by melting of interplanetary dust and large objects during atmospheric entry. Although cosmic spherules are known principally from the ice sheets of polar regions and Cenozoic deep-sea sediments [1-3], a few spherules older than Mesozoic were recovered from the sedimentary rocks of pelagi...
